Appliance Safety

With natural gas, you can heat your home, dry your clothes faster, prepare your food and heat your water efficiently while saving money.

Like all appliances, natural gas appliances should be installed and operated safely.

If during a company inspection an appliance is found in an unsafe operating condition or is non-compliant, natural gas service will be turned off until the condition is corrected. The appliance will need to be repaired by a qualified service agent before natural gas service can be restored. For your safety, please do not operate this appliance until it has been repaired.

NOTE: If your natural gas service has been turned off, DO NOT try to turn it back on. Only a Texas Gas Service qualified service technician can perform this task.

Before service can be restored, our technicians must check visible and accessible natural gas appliances.

Customer-Owned Responsibility

The customer-owned natural gas piping and appliances are not maintained by Texas Gas Service.

Texas Gas Services maintains the natural gas service line from the natural gas main to the meter. It the customer’s responsibility to maintain all customer-owned natural gas equipment, including house piping, yard piping, appliances and appliance connectors.

You should be aware that there may be natural gas piping between the meter and your house, or running to outbuildings or other outdoor appliances such as natural gas grills, lights, pool heaters, etc., that are not maintained by Texas Gas Service.

These pipes may leak as the result of corrosion or damage. Texas Gas Service recommends that you arrange for periodic inspection of any natural gas piping you own to identify any problems.

Such inspections, line locations and any needed repairs should be completed by a qualified service technician.
