Austin, Texas -- February 9, 2014

  • Today we have restored service to over 800 customers.  We have less than 250 residential customers remaining to relight.
  • Hospital is back on our system and off the CNG trailer.
  • We will go late into the evening tonight again.
  • Schools should have natural gas service restored and be ready in the morning.
  • Tomorrow morning we will also begin relighting about 60 commercial accounts that remain off.

Earlier this afternoon we made significant progress by restoring gas to the entire Jacksboro mainline system. The process to restore individual home and business service requires a service technician to visit each location. As of 7:00 p.m. tonight, we have restored service to over 800 of the almost 1,100 homes and businesses affected. Tomorrow morning we will relight about 60 commercial accounts. Our crews will continue to work late into the night to restore natural gas service to as many as we safely can. We ask that customers not attempt to restore their service for their own safety. We have brought in extra workers from throughout the state of Texas and from our Oklahoma division to help get Jacksboro back in service as safely and as quickly as possible.

The process to restore service has been complicated by the fluids that entered our system requiring many meters to be changed and extending the time necessary to safely restore service. Current expectations are that Jacksboro will have natural gas fully restored to all customers that are home by tomorrow. Our crews have been working in full force to get every customer’s service back on.

As a reminder, if you have pets, please secure them for the safety of our technicians. If you do not want our technicians to knock on your door late this evening, you can leave your porch light off or leave a note on your door. We will need to enter homes to complete the relight process. Our technicians wear clothing clearly marked with a yellow safety vest with Texas Gas Service (or Oklahoma Natural Gas Service) on it.

We are still going door to door to restore service where possible. It is not necessary to request service through our customer service department at this time however someone 18 or older must be home for us to complete the process.

We thank the residents of Jacksboro for their patience, understanding and for the City’s help from all the various departments and staff.

As always, we ask that if you smell natural gas, please leave the area immediately and call us at (800) 959-LEAK (5325).
