Austin, Texas – Dec. 19, 2013 – Texas Gas Service wants customers to be aware of a potential telephone scam that involves people posing as company employees demanding payment for their natural gas bills over the phone.

According to recent reports, a caller contacts customers requesting debit card or electronic check information as payment for a past-due balance.  Texas Gas Service does not conduct business in this way and discourages customers from providing personal information over the phone unless the customer has made the initial contact.

If a customer receives a suspicious call, they should hang up and call Texas Gas Service at 800-700-2443 to verify the information.  Customers also may report the incident to their local law enforcement agency.
