GALVESTON, Texas – Texas Gas Service announced today that it will begin construction on a new natural gas distribution pipeline to The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB) on Wednesday, May 20, 2015.  The project will provide additional natural gas service and energy capacity to UTMB, Galveston’s largest employer.

Upon completion, Texas Gas Service will maintain the four-mile, 8-inch pipeline. At this time, there are no planned service outages to customers during construction.

Construction of the new pipeline is expected to be completed by October 2015. The project will impact Galveston from Holiday Drive (4th Street) to 59th Street on Harborside Drive and Old Port Industrial Road.

Harborside Drive and Old Port Industrial Road are expected to have single lane closures in various locations. Some cross street access off Harborside Drive will be closed periodically.

Texas Gas will closely work with the City of Galveston and the Port of Galveston to minimize any potential traffic concerns. As the project progresses, we will post periodic project updates on our website, www.texasgasservice.com, and via Twitter (www.twitter.com/texasgasservice) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/TexasGasService).
