EL PASO, Texas – July 9, 2013 – Texas Gas Service advises customers to be alert for potential telephone fraud involving individuals posing as Texas Gas Service representatives. Several customers have contacted the company’s customer service department after receiving suspicious calls requesting personal information or demanding payment over the phone.

According to recent reports, a Spanish-speaking caller contacts customers asking for debit card or electronic check information as payment for a past-due balance. Texas Gas Service discourages customers from providing personal and confidential information to any unknown party over the telephone unless the customer initiated the contact.

If a customer receives a suspicious call, they should hang up and call Texas Gas Service at 800-700-2443 to verify the information. Customers also may report the incident to their local law enforcement agency.
